Behavior Interventionist/Specialist (One-Year, 2026-2027) Needed

Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) is seeking a passionate and hands-on professional to join our special education team as Behavior Interventionist/Specialist (One-Year, 2026-2027). The successful candidate will be a skilled, caring individual dedicated to providing intensive 1:1 support in the areas of personal development, behavior, social cognition, and academics.

 

In this role, you will work under the supervision of a licensed professional (special educator, employment & transition professional, or classroom teacher) to support appropriate specialized instruction, accommodations, and student independence.

 

Primary Responsibilities

• Carrying out instructional activities, tutoring students in academic/vocational skills, and implementing elements of specialized student plans.
• Implementing highly specialized behavior intervention programs and plans into the classroom and school setting in collaboration with teachers.
• Fostering student independence and assisting with personal care, mobility, and field trips to ensure full participation in all school activities.
• Collecting, recording, and analyzing student data (including interval data, weekly graphs, and progress reports) to evaluate performance and needs.
• Participating in regular coordination meetings and collaborating with teachers, administrators, and families to ensure instructional continuity.
• Facilitating multi-modal communication systems, assistive technologies, and adapted classroom materials during assigned instructional and social interactions.
• Carrying out school and district policies with high levels of professional integrity and an exemplary work ethic.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

• Active listening and interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional rapport and communicate courteously and effectively with students, faculty, and families.
• A Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or equivalent training/experience (two or more years preferred) working with students who struggle behaviorally.
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high-level, flexible problem-solving approach to supporting student needs.
• Proven ability to implement effective classroom management, de-escalation techniques, and equitable, inclusive educational practices.
• High self-control, stress tolerance, and the ability to maintain composure, poise, and compassion in difficult or emotionally explosive situations.
• A commitment to the CVSD mission and the development of a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for students and families.
